A motorist who was caught speeding at 150mph near Welwyn before eventually being stopped with a police stinger has been charged with driving offences.
Sinan Ergun, of Manly Dixon Drive in Enfield, has been charged with failing to stop when directed, driving dangerously and failing to provide a saliva sample following the incident on April 23.
The 27-year-old has been bailed and will appear at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 10.
At around 2.20am, officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, saw a BMW driving at a speed believed to be more than 150mph on the A1(M) near Welwyn.
The car eventually came to a stop along the South Mimms stretch, after officers successfully stung it during an authorised pursuit.
"We are determined to keep Hertfordshire’s roads safe and I hope this news is reassuring," said PC Alex Wheeler.
"The man was detained after a short, safe pursuit. Our officers regularly patrol the county’s motorways so this should be a warning to those who think it is ok to break the law on our roads."
