There was chaos and damage at a petrol station in Welwyn Garden City on Sunday following an affray incident.
The incident took place between 8pm and 9.15pm on Sunday, July 7, at the Shell garage in Stanborough Road.
Three men, who police believe are known to each other, became involved in an altercation inside the petrol station, but fled the scene before officers arrived.
Pictures began to circulate on social media following the incident, showing broken shelves and products strewn across the shop floor, but police confirmed they are "not treating this as vandalism".
"Police are investigating an affray which happened at the Shell garage in Stanborough Road, Welwyn Garden City," said a Herts police spokesperson.
"The incident happened between 8pm and 9.15pm on Sunday, July 7. Three men were involved and they are believed to be known to each other.
"The men left the scene before police arrival. This is being treated as an affray that caused a mess rather than vandalism and enquiries are ongoing."
