Isabel Hospice hosted Welwyn Hatfield Mayor Councillor Frank Marsh and deputy Mayor Councillor Lynn Chesterman, who visited to find out more about the vital work they do.

The hospice cares for thousands of people each year across the boroughs of Welwyn Hatfield, Broxbourne and East Herts.

Staff support patients and their families who are living with life-limiting illnesses by providing outstanding palliative and end-of- life care, with all their services being available for free for those in need.

Isabel Hospice’s chief executive officer, Helen Glenister, showed Councillor Marsh and Councillor Chesterman around the hospice’s full-time care facility in Welwyn Garden City which provides palliative care and support for patients and their families.

They also visited the charity's Living Well with Isabel Centre at Hall Grove.

The community hub is a centre for rehabilitation and wellbeing, offering a range of sessions for patients and carers; including exercise classes and horticulture.

Isabel also provides counselling and bereavement support for patients, their families and children and run a series compassionate cafés and social meet ups across eastern Hertfordshire to encourage social interaction and improve wellbeing.

Helen Glenister said: “I was delighted to show the mayor and deputy mayor around our hospice.

"We are committed to providing outstanding palliative care for all. It costs £7 million every year to guarantee the future of our care so that we can continue to care for more people, earlier in their journey."
