Road closures are among the key public notices in Welwyn Hatfield that are set to affect residents.

Here are a few notices which could impact residents in Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield and the surrounding areas in the coming months.

1) Luton Road, Kimpton

Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an order temporarily banning all vehicular traffic from using that length of Luton Road, Kimpton from its junction with B652 High Street north westwards to its junction with Fox Hill.

An alternative route will be via B652 High Street, B651 (Hitchin Road/Horn Hill), Lilley Bottom Road, Bendish Lane, Whitewaybottom Lane and Fox Hill.

All vehicles would also be prohibited from waiting at any time on both sides of the road while works are in progress. 

If the order is made, it will come into force on September 16, for a period of up to 18 months.

Closure times will be specified on signs on or near the road.

2) Slip Lane, Old Knebworth/Rabley Heath Road, Welwyn

Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an order to prohibit all traffic from using that length of Slip Lane, Old Knebworth/Rabley Heath Road, Welwyn, from its junction with Park Lane south eastwards and south westwards, except for access.

An alternative route will be via Park Lane, Nup End, Bury Lane, B656 (High Street/ Codicote Road) and Rabley Heath Road.

If the order is made, it will come into force on September 16 for a period of up to 18 months.

Closure times will be specified on signs on or near the road.

3) Fulling Mill Lane/Kimpton Road, Welwyn

Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an order to temporarily ban traffic from using the length of Fulling Mill Lane, Codicote/Welwyn, from its junction with B656 Codicote Road south westwards and south eastwards to its junction with the B656 Link Road roundabout.

An alternative route will be via B656 Codicote Road.

The length of Kimpton Road, Welwyn from its junction with Fulling Mill Lane north westwards would also be closed, except for access. 

An alternative route will be via Fulling Mill Lane, B656 (Codicote Road/High Street), St Albans Road and Kimpton Road.

The order is needed for utility service works are proposed.

If the order is made, it will come into force on September 19 for a period of up to 18 months.

Closure times will be specified on signs on or near the road.

4) Various roads in Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield

The council intends to make an order to prohibit vehicular access to the following roads:

  • Length of Dixons Hill Road, Hatfield from its junction with the A1000 Great North Road roundabout south westwards. An alternative route will be via A1000 Great North Road, B6426 (St Albans Road East/ Queensway/Cavendish Way), A1001 Comet Way, A414 North Orbital Road, High Street, Tollgate Road and Dixons Hill Road.
  • Guessens Road, Welwyn Garden City, from its junction with Russellcroft Road south westwards and north westwards to its junction with Handside Lane. An alternative route will be via Russellcroft Road and Handside Lane.
  • Southdown Road, Hatfield from its junction with Travellers Lane south westwards to its junction with Acacia Street. An alternative route will be via Travellers Lane, Northdown Road and Acacia Street.
  • Southdown Court, Hatfield from its junction with Southdown Road south eastwards for its entire length. There is no alternative route available for vehicles when the works are being carried out. However vehicular access to properties in this road will be maintained whenever possible. 

  • Station Road, Hatfield from its junction with Dixons Hill Road south eastwards to its junction with Dellsome Lane. An alternative route will be via Dixons Hill Road and Dellsome Lane.

The existing one way traffic system on Holwell Road, Welwyn Garden City from its junction with Ludwick Way south westwards to its junction with the Mill Green Road roundabout, a distance of approximately 315m will be temporarily suspended to enable all vehicles to travel in both directions within this length of road, whilst works are in progress.

If the order is made, it will come into force on September 16  for a period of up to 18 months.

5) High Street, Kimpton

High Street, Kimpton, will be closed from August 29 for a period of up to 18 months, to accommodate electrical connection works. 

However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the road.

6) Whitehill, Welwyn

Part of Whitehill in Welwyn will be closed for utility service works from September 2, with an alternative route will be via Whitehill, Homerswood Lane, Ayot St Peter Road, School Lane and Whitehill.

The closure will come into force on September 2, with specific times signposted near the roads.

7) South Road, Hatfield

A1001 South Way, Hatfield from its junction with Bishops Rise north eastwards to its junction with the Travellers Lane roundabout will be closed from September 3.

Additionally all vehicles are prohibited from waiting at any time on both sides of this length of the Road whilst works are in progress.

An alternative route will be via A1001 (South Way/Roehyde Way/Comet Way), A414 (Great North Road/Hertford Road), A1000 (Hertford Road/Great North Road) and A1001 South Way or A1001 South Way, A1000 (Great North Road/Hertford Road), A414 (Hertford Road/ Mount Pleasant Lane/Great North Road) and A1001 (Comet Way/Roehyde Way/South Way).

8) College Lane, Hatfield

Part of College Lane in Hatfield will be closed from September 2 for electrical service connection works. 

An alternative route will be via College Lane, A1001 (Roehyde Way/Comet Way), B6426 Cavendish Way and College Lane.
