A pub in Welwyn has submitted plans to retain its garden set up, which includes a tent, pods and an outdoor bar.

The application, submitted to Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council by the White Horse, is seeking retrospective permission to retain four garden pods and a large outdoor tent, while also keeping a former storage area as an outdoor bar.

The pub believes the set up to be a "vital asset" having suffered "significant losses" during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The proposed external works are a vital asset for the pub business, which has suffered significant losses due to the lockdowns and social distancing measures imposed by the government during the COVID-19 pandemic," the plans state.

"The proposal has also enhanced the vitality and viability of the pub, which is a part of the local economy and the leisure and tourism sector.

"In conclusion, the proposed retention of the garden structures in the beer garden of the White Horse is a development that has no adverse impact on the significance of the heritage asset or its setting, and that is justified by the benefits to the pub business and the local community."
