Nearly 200 members braved the bad weather to turn out for the Captain’s Day competition at Brookmans Park Golf Club on Saturday.

Captain’s Day is the most important day in the golfing calendar for club captain Mike Williams who was on hand to announce every player onto the first tee accompanied by vibrant music and applause.

Although most of the event took play in driving wind and rain, the members showed their dedication and support for Mike by battling through the elements despite the wet and cold conditions.

The green staff worked miracles after 30mm of rain the night before and were out on the course from 4am, battling away to make it as playable as possible, despite the continued rainfall.

In spite of the conditions, there were still some impressive scores with Kevin Barclay-Webb winning the day by just one point from Steve Huxley and Nick Roberts. Jessie Weiwei Ju was the leading lady to claim the ladies prize.

The rain did eventually relent and the sun came out as everyone enjoyed a barbecue as they sat down to watch England’s penalty shoot-out victory over Switzerland at Euro 2024 on a big screen in the clubhouse.
