A Welwyn Garden City law firm has won the prestigious Family Law Case of the Year award at the Family Law Awards.
Crane & Staples Solicitors were part of the team to pick up the gong at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, with family partners Danielle Peters and Sharon Montgomery, and senior associate solicitor Sian Churchill present at the ceremony.
It was Sian’s work on the complex (H-W (Children) [2022] UKSC 17) case that secured the award, with the matter heard at the Supreme Court in June.
She acted as a second appellant as the team successfully appealed a decision to remove three children from their family home and put them in separate foster placements.
“This very important case will be referred to going forward in many other care cases and provides clear guidance as to what is expected from Judges when setting out their reasons for making decisions at final hearings,” said Sian.
“We are absolutely delighted to have won this incredible award. I would like to thank everyone who worked so hard on this very difficult case to achieve the best outcome for the children involved.
“Congratulations to all the winners and finalists and thank you for a wonderful evening.”
