Don’t be a stick in the mud. Grab your trainers and join Isabel Hospice for its popular Muddy Mayhem event next weekend.

There is still time to sign up for the 5km obstacle course taking place at the beautiful and private Woodhall Estate, near Watton-at-Stone, where participants will get to slip, slide and scramble their way over and through some mud-tastic natural and man-made hurdles. 

More than 600 people of all ages took part in the family-friendly challenge last year, and the Welwyn Garden City-based hospice is hoping even more people will be willing to get their hands dirty in support of the palliative and end-of-life care charity when the event returns on Sunday, March 26. 

Isabel Hospice therapy assistant Jenny Bounsall and her Living Well with Isabel colleagues Emma Imam, a physiotherapist, and administrator Louise Cash were among those who took part in 2022. 

“We had so much fun at Muddy Mayhem in 2022,” Jenny said.

“The weather was amazing on the day and the course was perfectly pitched, so even our children could join in. In fact, they beat us to the finishing line!

“The camaraderie was fantastic, with everyone helping each other out, squelching through lovely knee-deep mud hand-in-hand and helping each other over the hurdles.

"It felt so good to get around the 5km course, even though we walked half of it, but it didn’t matter.

"We had a great workout, belly laughs, made new friends and were able to raise some donations for our lovely Hospice. A great sense of achievement.”

Muddy Mayhem, which takes place in conjunction with Letchworth’s Garden House Hospice Care, runs from 10am to 2pm.

In addition to the 5km adult course, there will be a 1km Mini Mudder route for children under-11.

Advance registration before March 25 is £35 for adults and £25 for 11- to 16-year-olds, or £40 and £30 respectively on the day.

Youngsters aged 11-16 on the Muddy Mayhem course must be accompanied by a paying adult. Registration for the Mini Mudder is £5 in advance or on the day.

Entry includes a commemorative medal and refreshments at the finish line. There will also be an event village with a variety of stalls and caterers for participants and spectators.

All participants are encouraged to get sponsorship as every pound raised helps to make a difference to patient care at Isabel Hospice.
