Fans of all things floral can learn from one of the industry’s best when renowned florist David Thomson gives a demonstration in aid of Isabel Hospice.
David, who was one of the team that arranged the floral displays in Westminster Abbey for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Thanksgiving Service in 2022, will be hosting ‘Flowers My Way’ in the Cobbold Barn at historic Knebworth House on Thursday, April 20.
The fundraiser has been organised by Isabel’s special events committee headed by the charity’s Life President, Barbara Doherty MBE.
All funds raised will help the Welwyn Garden City-based hospice continue providing its free specialist, compassionate care and support to patients, and their loved ones.

Barbara said: “Join us for a very special event with the renowned floral demonstrator David Thomson in the idyllic setting of the Cobbold Barn at historic Knebworth House.
"The demonstration will be followed by a delicious afternoon tea at your table in the barn, so why not make up a table, or come with friends, and help support the vital work of Isabel Hospice.”
David’s passion for floristry began when he started a job after school working as a delivery boy for a Glasgow-based flower shop.
After later taking up a career in the legal profession, he relocated down south and took up floristry evening classes as a hobby while working as a property lawyer in Essex.
Further qualifications led him to start teaching classes himself, which then led to him hosting his own flower demonstrations.
In 2007, David became a NAFAS (National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies) national demonstrator and now, having given up law, he travels all over the UK and abroad demonstrating, teaching and competing.
His many commercial commissions include The Jewel House at the Tower of London, Kensington Palace and St Paul’s Cathedral. He is also well known for his wedding floral artistry.
Barbara added: “David only does one charity event a year, so this really is an event not to be missed.”
The afternoon will culminate with an auction where guests will get the chance to bid to win one of David’s exquisite arrangements to take home, as well as a raffle.
Tickets are £50 per person. Coffee will be served on arrival at 12.30pm, with David’s demonstration starting at 1.15pm.
Afternoon tea will be served at 3pm, followed by the auction and raffle. A bar will also be open during the afternoon. Parking at the venue is free.
