The University of Hertfordshire is "frustrated" after it dropped 15 spots in the 2024 Complete University Guide league table. 

The Hatfield university now sits at 83rd in the country, falling from 68th place.

However, its ranking in multiple science-related subjects have climbed the league table. 

A University of Hertfordshire spokesperson said: “We are pleased to see the ranking of most of our courses has increased, with nursing, biological sciences and psychology particularly rising up the league table.

"Our research quality and student satisfaction results also continue to show a positive story; however, it is frustrating that the university’s overall position has dropped.

"The Complete University Guide uses retrospective data, some of which dates back to 2018-2019, and doesn’t reflect the excellent, ongoing work being undertaken to ensure students at Herts have the most enriching university experience possible."

The Complete University Guide compares over 130 UK universities and 74 subjects, ranked by 10 quality measures important to students, as well as student satisfaction, research quality, research intensity, entry standards, the student/staff ratio, spending on services and facilities, completion rates and graduate job prospects.

The spokesperson for UH added: "This is coupled with sector-wide issues in filling staff vacancies for a wide range of positions. "

“We are already taking robust measures to address these; we are continually recruiting, with more than 190 additional staff employed over the last year alone.
