A fire has ripped through a property in Potters Bar, during the early hours of the morning.

The unoccupied house's neighbours were alerted to the blaze by smoke alarms, prior to crews from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service attending the scene.

Four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were sent to the scene.

Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the attached property next door, but evident damage can be seen in images from the scene.

The blaze was extinguished by 2.30am.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 1:40am this morning to reports of a building on fire in Highview Gardens, Potters Bar.

"Four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were sent to the scene, where crews found a semi-detached property well alight, with the fire affecting the first floor and roof.

"Firefighters tackled the fire from multiple directions and had extinguished the flames by 2:30am.

"Crews remained at the scene until around 5am to damp down the embers and ensure that the fire was fully out.

"Nobody was injured and the fire is believed to have started accidentally."
