Work is continuing today to restore power to homes near Hatfield following lightning and thunderstorms.
Residents across Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield reported losing power after seeing lightning in the sky yesterday afternoon, but UK Power Networks were able to restore the supply last night.
However, properties in villages to the east of Hatfield, including Essendon and West End, are still being impacted. Although no time has been given for when the outage will end, temporary generators have restored power to most homes.
"As this was an unexpected power cut, we didn't know it was going to happen so we were unable to give you advanced notice," read a UK Power Networks statement.
"We're pleased to report that our engineers have now safely connected temporary generators and restored power to all but one property.
"These will be providing your power while our engineers work to fully repair the unexpected underground network fault.
"Depending on what the issue is, it may take a few days for our engineers to plan in the work and make their repairs, but once this is completed safely the generators can be removed, and network power will be resumed."
