Soroptimist International St Albans and District teamed up with University of Hertfordshire students to create an interactive #OrangeThe WorldHerts event.
Member Ameeta Sabharwal instigated an the event on Thursday, November 23, with students at the Hatfield-based university.
The event was aimed at helping the students to understand gender-based violence in all its forms, including online harassment.
Women Students’ Officer at Herts Student Union, Divya Maheshwaram, said: "Global movements like the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence are crucial for raising awareness and mobilising communities to take a stand against gender-based violence."
In the session they discussed the challenges faced particularly by international students. Cultural differences, language barriers, and the fear of jeopardising visa status can all contribute to their silence.
Orange the World is a UNiTE campaign which proclaimed the 25th of each month as “Orange Day”, a day to raise awareness and take action to end violence against women and girls. As a bright and optimistic colour, orange represents a future free from violence against women and girls.
