Landlines across Potters Bar and St Albans are facing technical issues this afternoon, with the problems set to last until this evening.
Herts police confirmed they had received reports of "technical issue affecting landline telephones" in St Albans, Potters Bar and Hoddesden, with the issues expected to be resolved by 7.30pm.
"We have been made aware of a technical issue affecting landline telephones in Hoddesdon, St Albans and Potters Bar," read a statement.
"We estimate this will be fixed by 7.30pm this evening, but BT engineers are working hard to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
"Mobile phones are unaffected by the problem and can be used to contact police in an emergency."
