A planning application has been submitted for a major housing development in Digswell.
The plans, submitted by a Mr A Kennington, propose the construction of a three-storey building containing 10 apartments, at 55 New Road.
The application also includes plans to demolish an existing home on the land, alterations to access and provisions for parking.
Digswell residents have already objected to the plans, with one saying: "This overdevelopment is disruptive to residents in around site. The infrastructure does not support further building.
"Noise and excess traffic already blight Station Road, Hertford Road and New Road. This dense part of the village cannot cope with further heavy traffic from lorries or extra vehicles due to more builds.
"This type of development is not required, as many apartments from previous developments remain empty. Affordable housing is needed, but this build does nothing to resolve the current housing crisis."
Other residents raised concerns about swift bricks, which provide shelter and nesting for birds, not being part of the development plans.
Another listed a number of concerns, including the "intrusive" nature of the building.
"The scheme adversely affects the visual amenity of one of the main access routes into and
out of the village, and is intrusive in relation to scale, height, and footprint," they said.
