One potato, two potatoes, three potatoes, four… The countdown is on at one of Hertfordshire’s leading leisure attractions as it launches its annual potato harvest.
The annual Potato Shindig at Willows Activity Farm, near St Albans, sees families provided with spades and buckets to get digging at the farm from Saturday, September 7 until Sunday, September 29.
More than 20 tonnes of potatoes are ready for families to harvest, and every paying child can take a bucket of freshly-dug spuds home with them.
Lyssa Elster, chief executive at Willows Activity Farm, said: “Our team planted the seed potatoes earlier this year and we’re really looking forward to welcoming families in to unearth some spectacular spuds.
“We also love seeing online what our young harvesters have created with their free potatoes when they get home including chips, mashed potatoes and roasties, along with seeing them get stuck into some potato art.”
As well as harvesting potatoes, visitors can look forward to potato stamping in the Arts & Crafts marquee while the farm’s own potato mascot, Spuddy, will be back on stage to entertain visitors with a mash-up of singing and dancing.
Lyssa added: “To add even more value, all guests who book a ticket for our Potato Shindig event will also be able to book a free ticket to return to the farm anytime between 30 September – 18 October.
"We’re hopeful this great offer will give families a second day out to look forward to ahead of our Pumpkin Festival starting in October.”
After all that digging, visitors should leave some energy to enjoy all that Willows has to offer including the PETER RABBIT™ Adventure Playground, Peter Rabbit Adventure Golf, Peter Rabbit shows throughout the day, Indoor Playbarn, The Farmyard animals, funfair rides and inflatables, Tristan the Runaway Tractor and the Puddle Play Park.
The Potato Shindig takes place daily at Willows, in London Colney, from September 7 to September 29.
Tickets include all activities, shows and adventure play and can be purchased in advance online with savings on family tickets.
Willows Activity Farm is set in the Hertfordshire countryside, 200 metres off Junction 22 of the M25.
