A planning application has been submitted to turn a former South Mimms pub into a technology training centre.
The plans, submitted by Griggs Ltd, would see The White Hart in St Albans Road become a "technology and innovation hub", with two-storey building, parking, cycle and bin store also included in the proposal.
The pub has stood empty since it was sold to a developer by McMullen in 2022, with a previous application submitted to turn the site into 10 apartments.
Now, Griggs is hoping to turn the former public house into a "unique and exciting" technology training centre, which will be operated by Hertsmere Borough Council.
"The intention is that the new training facility will be fitted out and transferred to Hertsmere Borough Council, with a financial contribution for 15 years of running costs, to enable the hub to become established in the local community and remain in perpetuity," the plans read.
"The hub will be a unique opportunity to train the next generation of Hertsmere’s workforce. It will also provide opportunities to re-train adults and equip them with new, modern skills specifically aimed at the growing digital economy and lower unemployment across the region.
"The application provides a unique and exciting facility. It provides technology facilities and opportunities that colleges, universities and schools do not commonly have available to their students.
"Giving students opportunities to develop these core skills that will open up so many employment opportunities. The facility can be integrated into local apprenticeship schemes, helping young people to train in a fast and expanding industry."
"The hub is specifically designed to be a technology facility that is not available and be something Hertsmere is proud of."
