Councillor Daisy Jerobon invites everyone to celebrate the power of ideas and the people who turn them into reality, proving that Hatfield is a town where dreams take flight.
This Global Entrepreneurship Week, I wanted to throw the spotlight on Hatfield being a town where innovation and ambition thrive.
As a town councillor who has established my own digital marketing agency, Better Stronger, here in Hatfield I am committed to empowering entrepreneurs and strengthening the business community in the town.
That’s why Global Entrepreneurship Week (November 18-24) is a great initiative. It celebrates entrepreneurs, and especially seeks to encourage those individuals who face structural barriers or who may never consider the idea of launching a start-up.
Entrepreneurship is the backbone of the British economy and Hatfield’s unique blend of history, innovation, and opportunity makes it the perfect place for businesses to grow and succeed.
In the UK, the Office for National Statistics reported that at the start of 2023 there were 5.6 million small businesses in the UK.
That’s a staggering 99.2 per cent of all the businesses in the UK, and according to the Federation of Small Businesses, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), employed around 60 per ent of the private sector workforce, and had an estimated turnover of £2.4 trillion in 2023.
Hatfield is a great place to start and pursue opportunities. If you are looking for a base, then there’s an array of commercial properties available across the town. #There’s the business park to the west of the town, completed and near completed redevelopments in the Town Centre, High View and Salisbury Square areas, and a whole new section proposed for the town to the Northwest, around the existing Hatfield Garden Village area.
If you are looking for partners, we have several major companies and institutions to work with.
As well as major companies and brands, Hatfield is also home to the Hertfordshire Chambers of Commerce and the University of Hertfordshire, who’s reputation just keeps on rising with a growing business school, impressive new engineering facilities and confirmation that it will open a new Medical School in 2026.
In my professional life, I support a number of start-ups at HatTech, as well as collaborating with the University of Hertfordshire on a number of initiatives.
In my civic life I’m keen to use my position to build Hatfield’s local business network so that we can all support each other and continue to foster Hatfield as a hub of entrepreneurial spirit and a town where literally dreams take flight.
One thing any new business needs is smart and hardworking people. That’s why it was so refreshing to meet some very bright and impressive young people from the Welwyn Hatfield Youth Council.
They had several great ideas and initiatives for us take on board as civic leaders and I could see that there were a few budding entrepreneurs amongst the group.
I look forward to working closely with them, and will be inviting them to use this Global Entrepreneurship Week, to invite them to celebrate the power of ideas and the people who turn those ideas into reality.
