Blustery and changeable weather made life difficult for some hockey teams but others sailed through seemingly tranquil waters.
The men's first team at Potters Bar faced a tough challenge in East League Division One South when they travelled to second-placed Upminster.
It is a venue where they have produced some surprise results in the past but it was not to be this time as they fell to a 3-0 loss.
They are now 10th in the standings, level on points with their two rivals below them, Brentwood and Old Loughtonians.
However, they have just two games left while the others, including Bedford and Blueharts above them, have three.
The seconds fell to a 5-2 defeat against St Albans at their Dame Alice Owens' base, Adam Frame and Sam Penn on target, while the thirds were also disappointed as they lost 3-0 at Welwyn Garden City seconds.
There was better news for the fourths though thanks to a 5-0 win over St Albans.
Simon Kelly and Matthew Fretter each got two while the other came from Danny Becker.
The men's first team at Welwyn Garden City made it six wins and a draw from their nine games since Christmas thanks to a convincing 4-1 win at Luton Town in Division Two South West.
They started in superb fashion, Paul Marchant and Nate Last combining to set-up Will Reilly for the opening goal in under 30 seconds.
That though was wiped out by the time the clock had reached 75 seconds and from there, the game settled down.
However, by the time the interval was reached, WGC had roared into a 3-1 advantage.
The second saw Mark Skilbeck beat a couple of players before his ball into the D deflected off a defender's stick.
Last though showed great reflexes to reach up and flick it while flying through the air beyond the keeper.
Marchant was giving his marker a real run-around and after another charge down the flank, he crossed for Oli Rowe to bag the third.
On another day there might have been more too but Welwyn were still delighted with their work in the first half.
The second period saw a controlled performance from the visitors, wise to what Luton would try.
And while the home side had plenty of the ball, Welwyn kept them to just a couple of chances that goalkeeper Dan Klinger dealt with well.
And they showed they how to be clinical at the other end too, Last picking up the ball of halfway with 15 minutes to go before slicing through the defence and putting it into the corner.
Skipper Klinger said: "A big shoutout to all the players. No subs made it difficult.
"But the defence tackled and saved well, as well as being great at playing out, while the midfield was fluid with some great triangles.
"And each of the front three got a goal or assist."
It was a good day across the men's section too.
Aside from the seconds beating Potters Bar, the thirds drew 4-4 with Luton while the fourths won 1-0 at Shefford & Sandy.
The ladies' first-team drew 3-3 at Blueharts while the thirds won 2-0 at home to Royston.
