The Faldo Elite Tour had its home leg - with the winner saying the course at Welwyn Garden City proved why Sir Nick Faldo was so good with irons.
The newly-formed tour, named after the garden city's most famous golfer, found its way to the Mannicotts base where Faldo began his career in 1971.
And the third event of the season gave his home club the chance to show themselves off in their centenary year.
They were graced by an exceptional field, including Walker Cup players Josh Berry, Arron Edwards-Hill and Hugh Foley, the prize of a Challenge Tour exemption the carrot.
And it was Foley who took the win after shooting an impressive six-under-par 64, despite starting with a bogey.
Seven birdies gave him the victory by two shots over Spain’s Ruben Lafuente Montesa.
Foley, from Royal Dublin Golf Club, said: "You can see why Sir Nick is such a great iron player, the greens are so narrow but once you’re on you have a chance.
"Many thanks to the Faldo Series team once again for the opportunities provided to be able to play on the Challenge Tour this year."
A spokesman for the Tour thanked David Spring, Kelly Cooke, Marlene Duke and the whole team at WGCGC for "a fantastic event" with "the course in superb condition".
