Serene conditions greeted sailors from Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club in their latest round of races.
A mirror surface on the lake when the fleet assembled suggested no racing was the most sensible option.
But after a delayed start, the hint of a breeze was enough to tempt a small number of mariners onto Stanborough Lakes, navigating a shorter course than normal.
The more skilful helms completed two laps, the majority managed to finish just one, and it was the smaller boats who prevailed.
Annette Walter was way ahead in race one but junior Angelo Hansen took race two to share the honours.
Dave Lambert was third in both races and first in the fast fleet.
Another junior, Matthew Dilks, did well in challenging conditions coming fourth overall.
When it was obvious conditions were not improving, several opted out of a second crawl round the lake and several of the others wished they had done the same.
