Parkruns took the spotlight for Garden City Runners as two charities helped to make things slightly different.

Three from the club were at Poole with the event coinciding with a Stormbreak charity meeting, for whom Katy is a trustee.

Stormbreak was set up by Martin Yelling and aims to improve children’s mental health through movement.

There was also a guest appearance by parkrun founder, and fellow Stormbreak trustee, Paul Sinton-Hewitt.

Sam Males managed to smash out a PB on the fast, flat but very busy course with a time of 23 minutes 13 seconds.

Jo Grant was the other of the GCR trio.

Charity will also be the name of the game on February 3 and 4 when the foodbank run takes place.

That is an initiative that encourages running groups to partner with local food banks to organise a run and get participants to bring donations.

GCR will provide pacers and volunteers at both Panshanger and Beehive, the Sunday morning junior parkrun held at King George V.

More than 2.1 million people use food banks, up 1.5m from five years ago.

February has been chosen as it is the time of the year when families are hardest hit.
