Potters Bar Town enjoy big crowd and win on non-league day

Firstly, the crowd of 467 for their Isthmian League Premier Division game with Kingstonian was their biggest of the season.

And there is a good chance some might fancy a trip back after watching the Scholars storm to a 6-1 success in grand style, their fourth win in a row and ninth game unbeaten.

However, manager Max Mitchell doesn't they are even close to their peak and while the day was a huge success for the club, the team are still getting into their stride with plenty more to come.

"I'm so pleased for the club," he said. "I know the work that has gone in to get this day on.

"To offer free entry is excellent. We hoped to put on a performance that would get a few back and look at the energy around the place, we felt that from a playing perspective and it drove us on to go and get three points.

"We're also trying to grow as a group and trying to get a group that is connected to the fans is always a challenge.

"But we've laid the foundations and tried to set a bit of a team culture and a philosophy and an identity in how we play.

"The players have a choice, to either take that on board or not, and we've seen the growth of this team over the last few months.

"It's coming to fruition now and this is just the start, I don't think it is coming to an end.

"We're always looking at ways to improve and the boys have bought into that.

"I keep speaking about this bus that we're on, and that's not just the team but the fanbase, the committee and the chairman as well.

"I can only thank them as they have given me the licence after a tough start and we're not done yet."

The win over Kingstonian had Temi Babalola putting them ahead on 11 minutes before an Ore Bello double and a Leigh Rose effort made it 4-0 after a little more than 30 minutes played.

Eddie Dsane pulled one back for the K's in the second half but Shane Cojocarel and a sublime Kasim Aidoo strike into the top corner completed a superb day out for the Scholars.

The boss was delighted with the application of his side.

Mitchell said: "There was a lot of things going on around the club and we had to focus on our job and make sure we got a result.

"We did that.

"We started excellently, Temi got on the end of Ore's cross and gave us a 1-0 lead inside 10 minutes.

"I'm really pleased for him, he has had to be patient, but he has been excellent over the last four games and while he hasn't scored, he has given us so much.

"We then scored some very good goals to go into the break 4-0 up and very comfortable.

"The challenge for us in the second half was to try and replicate that.

"We're disappointed we haven't kept a clean sheet but credit to the players. Our last three or four games have been tough but to put on a performance like that in front of a big crowd was excellent."

The victory drew comparisons with the 5-0 win over Hashtag United back on January 9, which remarkably was only separated from this one by two other home games, Bar's last five matches on the road.

That was why the performance and result meant so much to Mitchell.

He said: "If we play on the front foot then our athleticism is one of our attributes.

"Some of our play and our decision making was excellent and we scored some great goals.

"It was a similar performance to the 5-0 win over Hashtag United. We were really aggressive and on the front foot early on.

"We kind of knew [this type of] result was coming. We have been excellent in our last three games but those were away from home.

"To come back here, our last home game was February 6, and put on a performance like that, is credit to the players."
