A big youth football tournament is set for Welwyn Garden City this weekend.
Saturday and Sunday will see thousands of young footballers take part in the Mid Herts League Divisional Cup finals, with both Panshanger Football Club, based at Moneyhole Lane Playing Fields, and Welwyn Garden City Youth, playing out of Ridgeway Academy, the two venues.
It is the second time that Panshanger have had the privilege of being chosen to host the finals, and chairman Darren Williams believes it highlights "the important role the club has in providing grassroots football opportunities to local children".
This season, Panshanger have six of their own teams who have qualified for the finals, with Moneyhole Lane hosting the games in the U10 to U15 age groups.
Welwyn Garden City Youth's home at Ridgeway meanwhile will have games in the U9, U16 and U18 groups.
In total more than 50 matches will be played involving in excess of 1,400 children from all over Hertfordshire.
Panshanger FC, is one of the oldest grassroots football clubs in the south east, having celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019.
They now boast 33 teams in total, both boys and girls, with ages from U7 all the way up to U18.
Like many others, they are a volunteer-run club and are always on the lookout for new players, managers, coaches and sponsorship to continue to help provide grassroots football opportunities.

Hatfield United have just had their big weekend as both the U12 Blues and the U16s clinched their league titles.
The Blues still have one game to play but victory over Panshanger was enough for them to take the crown.
The U16s were playing in the Bedfordshire Youth Saturday League for the first time, and led by captain Garry Duke, they won 18 and drew one of their 20 league games.
They could win the double this weekend when they take on Shefford Saints in the league cup.
United's Dan Whittaker and he said “Youth football in Hatfield is really on the up at the moment.
"It’s exciting to see what more these boys can achieve in the next few years, and hopefully they take that into adult football."
United's U15s are also in a league cup final at Flitwick this weekend.
