Max Mitchell has made his first moves into the summer transfer market with the capture of two for Potters Bar Town.

Jamie Dicks was the first to be snapped up, the defensive midfielder having been with Grays Athletic and Enfield for spells last season.

Prior to that he called Romford home on three occasions as well as helping Aveley into National League South.

Bowers & Pitsea was one of his other main clubs, winning the Isthmian League Division One North title as well as reaching the first round of the FA Cup.

Dicks said: "Hearing Max's views on the club's direction and the way he wants to play this season seemed just right for myself.

"I'm certainly glad to be playing back at step three. There are some big teams dropping down into the league, so it should be exciting.

"My style of play is mainly based on fitness. The fitter I am, the best version of me you'll get to see.

"My personal target for the season would be to have a good, healthy, injury-free season, but I'd like to hopefully add some silverware too."

Signing number two is a very familiar face, having only left for Walthamstow in January.

Ryan Hervel admitted he jumped at the chance to return to the Scholars when he heard of Mitchell's interest, eager to add to his 26 appearances and two goals.

"I feel like I have unfinished business," he said. "As soon as I spoke to Max and I heard he would be interested in having me back, it was sort of a no brainer to be honest.

"I enjoyed my time at the club last year.

"I can see from the signings that the core of the team is at the club next year, hopefully we can be competing at the top end of the table.

"Max is a very ambitious manager, and Hopey as well, and if you look at our form in periods throughout the season, we were up there with the top five or six teams."

The new artificial surface was also a factor as he lamented the postponements which threw a real spanner in all of their momentum last term.

"As a player, once you're in that winning momentum, you just can't wait for that next game," Hervel said.

"It was nobody's fault, but when you're having games called off and having two to three weeks in between games, it's hard to carry that momentum over.

"With an artificial surface, you know you're going to be playing and it allows us to play different styles of football, it's a win win."

The Scholars have also announced the first of their pre-season fixtures.

They begin on the road at Harpenden Town on Saturday, July 6, the match at Rothamsted Park kicking-off at 3pm.

That is followed by a trip to Hayes & Yeading United three days later, Tuesday, July 9.

Their delayed Herts Charity Cup final against St Albans City will be played at Clarence Park, the National League South club's home, on Saturday, August 3.
