The battle of the two remaining unbeaten teams in the Herts Cricket League Premier Division ended with Potters Bar falling on their sword - beaten away by Totteridge Millhillians.

They had got a well below-par 151 and that was a target Totteridge surpassed in the 43rd over, albeit with only three wickets remaining.

The home side could have had Bar in real trouble but James Seward survived a couple of early shouts while Reece Hussain was dropped at the beginning of his knock.

They managed to push on and were 82-2 going into the 20th over, seemingly over the worse.

The introduction of spin changed that and Bar lost three wickets for just three runs in nine deliveries.

Hussain's second half century of the summer repaired some of the damage but when he went for 59, the writing was on the wall.

They did get a good start, leaving Totteridge 18-2, and a couple of quick wickets had them at 107-5.

Jack Keeping though was in control and he finished on 74 not out as the hosts won.

Callum Lloyd had his best figures in a Bar shirt, finishing on 3-25.

There was far better fortunes for town rivals Old Owens as well as North Mymms

The latter had a fourth-wicket partnership to thank for the basis of their 101-run victory over Hertford.

Viv Paver and Nesan Jeyaratnam had come together with the score at 73-3 and they went on to add 154.

The skipper was the first to go, bowled for 62 off 63 deliveries but Paver stuck around to the final over, finally seen off for 107, made off 100 balls and containing six fours and seven sixes.

It left them on 278-5 in their 50 overs and the Mymms reply began with a first over straight out of the Mary Poppins playbook - it was practically perfect.

Rhys Wynne took the wicket of Hugh Cavener with the very first ball, caught by Dharmarajsinh Jhala, and although he coughed up a single on his third delivery, the fifth was edged behind by Max Lawrence and snaffled by Richard Soulsby.

To their credit, Hertford did attempt to make a fist of it and got up to 114 before they lost their fourth wicket, Jayden Broodryk going for 66.

The departure of Will Ray (47) and Richard Leather (26) with five balls ended their hopes though and they were all out for 177.

Sabrish Ganesh did the damage with 5-13, while William Jones joined Wynne on two wickets.

Owens meanwhile produced a stunning bowling display to skittle Bishop's Stortford out for 62 runs, leaving them 88-runs short of the away side's 150-8.

Brad Lane was the tormentor-in-chief as he claimed 4-16 in his eight overs but he had excellent support from Jake Whickham, who had 3-13 in his maximum 10 overs, and Tej Thakkar who returned figures of 2-19 in five overs.

That ended the reply inside 27 overs.

The first innings had moments of panic for Owens but was sprinkled with some solid performances.

Chris Palmer led the way with 38 not out while Rhys Carter got 36.

Dylan Ranjan batted for almost two hours as he made a patient 27 but it was Palmer and Rupert Kitzinger who accelerated the run rate late on, the latter supporting Palmer with an unbeaten 12.

The results drop Bar down to fourth, with Mymms now two places above them. Owens are seventh.

Next week sees Potters Bar at home to West Herts while Old Owens host the unbeaten leaders, Totteridge.

North Mymms are at third-placed Harpenden.
