The sun came out for Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club’s Summer Regatta on Sunday, but not the wind which was light and fickle.
In the first race, Alan Campbell was the first in the fast fleet followed by David Lambert with Mike Caddy third.
Sheila Stowe had a comfortable win in the slow fleet followed by Charles Adams. Robin Hailey, with his mother as crew, was third.
The spoils of the regatta were then determined by race two; the pursuit.
Positions changed frequently as the fast fleet gradually overhauled the boats that started first and as a result of the varying wind across the lake.
Stowe just held on to beat Adams to take the slow fleet cup and get first choice of the bottles of wine. Mike Dilks’ consistency secured him third place.
Campbell collected the Nabisco Cup as winner of the Fast Fleet.
Matthew Dilks shared the Juniors’ prizes with Robin Hailey.
