The traditional drive-in for new captains at Brookmans Park Golf Club came with the usual sense of razzmatazz and fun.
Part of the tradition is the new club and ladies captain come in fancy dress to start their captaincy year and entertain the large crowd of club members who turn up to welcome them.
This year the event had a super-hero theme with club captain Robin Buxton coming as Robin to the caped crusader that was ladies' captain Sheila Langley.
A spokesman said: "The two captains bounded out from a smoke filled gazebo to the rapturous applause and great amusement before heading to the first tee at the club to formally carry out the drive in ceremony.
"As both were wearing masks, the drive in process was somewhat more difficult than normal but both managed to hit their drives successfully down the fairway to the cheers of the crowd and to start their year in office."
In his welcome speech Buxton thanked everyone for turning out to support both him and Langley and he promised an exciting year ahead for members with many new events for everyone.
Earlier in the day members competed for The Club Captain and Ladies Captain Drive In Shotgun Greensomes Trophy, which is normally held prior to the main event.
The winners this year were Ian Calnan and Colin Wotherspoon with 49 stableford points, a full 13 shots under their playing handicap on the day.
