A classic Giuseppe Verdi opera is coming to the cinema screen in Welwyn Garden City.
The Royal Opera’s production of La Traviata will be screened live from The Royal Opera House in London to the Garden City Cinema, at Campus West, on Thursday, February 4, at 6.45pm.
Verdi’s tragic opera of a Parisian courtesan who sacrifices all for love is vividly told in Richard Eyre’s production.
Alfredo and the courtesan Violetta fall passionately in love.
But Alfredo’s father, Giorgio Germont, disapproves of their relationship.
Germont convinces Violetta that she must leave Alfredo, for the family’s sake – not realising that Violetta is very ill.
The opera is sung in Italian with English subtitles and features the Royal Opera Chorus and Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.
The show lasts about three hours 10 minutes and includes two intervals.
Act One will last for about 35 minutes followed by a 30-minute break.
Act Two will last for about one hour 5 minutes, followed by a 25-minute interval.
Act Three lasts for about 35 minutes.
